In train at last...

At last we found seats on a train from Florence to Paris via Milan (changing trains with five minutes to spare) and Geneva, changing trains with two hours to spare. As I write from the train, it’s remarkably pleasant, with snowy alps out the window on either side. All up, it’s a long day ahead, and my iPhone battery is on the verge of expiry leaving us mapless, and without internet, music and movies. The iphone is a fantastic travel tool… great to be able to spot yourselves on a map anywhere in the world! We’ve just crossed the border from Italy to Switzerland, so it’s yet another unexpected benefit from the ash induced itinerary change. Next time, we won’t bother planning the trip in advance. Just turn up, and improvise.
