Nothing quite prepares you for that first glimpse of the Colosseum as you turn the corner of a busy Roman street. It's staggering in scale, and remarkably preserved. One thing I didn't know - it was built with the proceeds from the pillaging of Jerusalem in 70AD. So if Jerusalem had listened to Jesus, tourists would have one less photo opportunity.

Oops - forgot the Colosseum
Nothing quite prepares you for that first glimpse of the Colosseum as you turn the corner of a busy Roman street. It's staggering in scale, and remarkably preserved. One thing I didn't know - it was built with the proceeds from the pillaging of Jerusalem in 70AD. So if Jerusalem had listened to Jesus, tourists would have one less photo opportunity.
